How Is This So Creamy, Customizable & Fast?!

  • Bold Flavor, Your Way:ย Control the chunkiness and tang to make it exactly howย youย like it.
  • Better Than Store-Bought: Creamy, rich, and made without any weird stuff. Itโ€™s so good, it tastes like the kind you get at a really good restaurant.
  • Ridiculously Quick:ย Whip it up in 5 minutes flat, no fuss, no fancy tools.

Blue Cheese Dressing Ingredients

Overhead shot of labeled ingredients.
  • Blue Cheese Tip: Use any blue cheese you love, block or crumbles, both work! Mash it smooth for even flavor, or keep it chunky if you like.
  • Too strong? Swap blue cheese for Gorgonzola. Itโ€™s milder, creamier, and still gives you that bold flavor, just a little more mellow.
  • Buttermilk:ย Add more or less buttermilk depending on how thin or thick you like your dressing. The buttermilk will thin out slightly as it sits over time.
  • Add Lemon: Add a splash of fresh lemon juice for a bright pop of flavor.

How to Make Homemade Blue Cheese Dressing

This creamy blue cheese dressing recipe is as easy as it gets! Just a few simple steps, and itโ€™s ready in 5 minutes. I love making it with my classic wedge salad! Itโ€™s seriously better than the best Blue cheese dressing at a steakhouse!

  1. Mash: In a small bowl, add blue cheese crumbles and buttermilk, then mash the crumbles with a fork.
  2. Combine: Add in sour cream, mayonnaise, parsley, garlic powder, and salt and pepper to taste, then whisk to combine.

Alyssaโ€™s Pro Tip

Let it sit: For best results, let your blue cheese dressing chill for at least 8 hours or overnight. As a result, the flavors have time to mix and marry, and it makes a big difference in how good it tastes!

I love this. Am I doing something wrong? When I make it and use right away itโ€™s thick. When I refrigerate over night it gets watery

I be made this twice. I donโ€™t know what I am doing wrong. Itโ€™s thick when I make it and when it sits overnight in the fridge it gets watery. Both times!!

    1. Im so sorry that is happening! Give it a good stir when you take it out of the fridge and next time you make it, try using less buttermilk!

I worked in a restaurant many, many years ago. We made our own dressings. Well, Iโ€™ve gone many years buying Kraft or Wishbone or marzettis (sp) I wanted to stop eating garbage ingredients.

This is this absolute best recipe for Bleu Cheese dressing, dip Iโ€™ve ever tasted!

  5. Nice recipe. Iโ€™ve made Blue Cheese Dressing many times. I prefer my Blue Cheese to be from an actual wedge, which Iโ€™ll crumble myself, since the pre-crumbled cheese contains an additive which prevents the crumbles from sticking together. Who needs that? Anyways, whatโ€™s so hard about crumbling cheese? Nice recipe, thank you. BTW, Wedge Salad is our favorite โ€˜Shmancyโ€™ Salad, especially for company, but we also enjoy it every once in just because we love it.
