This Easy Fried Rice has always been one of the most-loved recipes on my site! I have made different versions, but this classic recipe is the one everyone keeps coming back to because it’s so easy and delicious!

A Reader’s Review
I’m a really picky eater so it’s really hard for me to try new recipes but I gave this one a go because it had so many good reviews. I’m so happy that I did! This fried rice recipe was so simple and easy to do, my husband wants me to make this all the time now. I highly recommend this recipe!
Literally The Best Fried Rice Ever!
- Authentic Flavor: The secret to that classic Chinese takeout taste? Sesame oil! It ties everything together for that rich, nutty flavor.
- One-Pan Wonder: Everything cooks in a single pan, which means less mess and more time to sit back and enjoy the family. Win-win!
- Better Than Takeout: This tried-and-true family favorite beats takeout every time. I even visited my son in college and taught him how to make this recipe so that he could have a decent meal to make himself!
Ingredients Needed

- Cold or Day-Old Rice: Fresh rice gets mushy, so if you can plan ahead, day-old rice will make all the difference!
- Use Jasmine or long grain rice! Short grain? Too sticky. Long grain? Perfect texture. Trust me!
- Soy Sauce! Add a little or add a lot, it’s up to you! Either way, it’s the secret sauce that brings everything together!
How To Make The Best Fried Rice
My Chinese sister-in-law shared some game-changing tips for this recipe, and they make all the difference! Follow this easy recipe to make some PF Chang’s Honey Chicken, and you’ll never go back to takeout again.
- Cook Veggies: Preheat a large skillet or wok to medium heat. Add sesame oil, chopped white onion, and frozen peas and carrots, then cook until tender.
- Cook Eggs: Slide the vegetables to the side and then pour the eggs onto the other side of the skillet. Using a spatula, scramble the eggs. Once cooked, then you can mix the eggs with the vegetables.
- Add Rice: Add cooked white rice to the veggie and egg mixture, then pour soy sauce on top. Stir the rice and veggie mixture until warmed through and combined.
- Enjoy! Top with green onions, if desired, and serve immediately.

Notes
- How long does fried rice last? Stored right in an airtight container, it stays fresh for 5–7 days in the fridge.
- Can you reheat it? Yep! Stovetop or microwave works best—just don’t reheat it more than once.
- Can you freeze it? Absolutely! Seal it up in an airtight container or ziplock, throw it in the freezer, and you’re good to go!

Yummy so tasty ?
I used a mixture of peanut, canola and sesame oil. I also added fresh ginger, ground oepper and cilantro. I added mushrooms, red pepper and cauliflower to the vegetables. And a bit of marinated roasted Cuban pork. It was fabulous!
I used marinated pork tenderloin cut in cubes and it worked great !
This is my new go to for fried rice! A little goes a long way with sesame oil. Perfect amount! Don’t try to add more. Easy and delicious! Definitely chinese restaurant quality!
Very easy and yummy. Thanks a lot for the recipe!!
I added canned corn to the carrots and peas, came out delicious.
Yum! That sounds so good!
when u say one cup of rice u mean americain cup or rice cup? rice cup is 180ml americain is 250ml
also it is cooked so does that mean i need 1.5 cups uncooked rice?
You will need 3 cups of cooked rice for this recipe. I used a standard American one-cup measurement (not a rice cup). Let me know what you think!
This recipe is awesome. It is easy and delicious. Will be making it again and again.
I made it again and my husband stated it is the best fried rice he has ever eaten!
Thanks for the great recipe.
Hi Alyssa,
I don’t have an instant-pot. This recipe looks delicious… How would I prepare the rice stove top ? Alyssa, I’m clueless girl when it comes to preparing rice which is favorite go to at a Chinese restaurant…
Ben…
Hello! This recipe doesn’t need an Instant Pot. You can cook it right on your stovetop using these instructions.:)
Made it tonight, was excellent. Just wondered by there was no oyster sauce in it?
This is one of the blandest fried rice recipes I’ve seen… Where are the spices? Any aromatics beyond a bit of onion? Why is this made in a frying pan and not a wok?
This is a fried rice only in the strictest technical sense – it’s a dish that contains rice and the food is being fried…
It’s the blandest recipe? Did you taste it? I haven’t made it yet, but when using soy sauce you really don’t need many other seasonings. Maybe it was made in a frying pan because that’s all she had. I intend on making mine in a regular pan. Not everyone owns a wok.
Maybe instead of criticism, helpful suggestions. There was really no need to be rude.
Hey Jessica,
I found a really nice wok at Walmart… I think I paid $25.00 for it, but don’t quote me on that because it may have only been like $20.00… I use it a LOT! Small price to pay for a wok, I’d say… I’ve seen them where they cost $100.00 or more! Yikes, there’s a punch in the pocket book! Right?
I use an iron skillet and use my cooling skills. Wok NOT required!!
Great recipe we all loved it. I added left over ham.
Sounds delicious! I’m so glad that you loved it!
Just put ingredients on my shopping list and can’t wait to cook. My kids actually just ask for egg fried rice ?. This looks delicious… thank you ?
You’re welcome! Thanks for trying it!!
I made this tonight and it was soooo good. I made the rice today and just cooled it down in the fridge. Will for sure be making this again!
Love your page, always easy to follow recipes thank you ….
My family really enjoyed this! Very tasty, quick and easy to make.
I have the pickiest eaters ever! And they devoured the bowl!! I added chicken in too.
Awesome recipe (minus the onions) – no more takeout for me!
This recipe was so yummy. I added cubed Spam and chopped mushrooms. I also used green bell pepper instead of peas and carrots. My husband is already talking about making it again. Thank you for sharing this recipe!
